NaTalia Johnson: National G-SEP Spokesperson

The Founder and National Spokesperson of the Girls Self Esteem Program is Ballet Star and community volunteer NaTalia Johnson.

She is a Principal Dancer with both Urban Ballet Theatre, and Ballet Noir in New York City and danced with The Dance Theatre of Harlem until the company went on hiatus.  She starred in a nationally televised performance at the White House with  Grammy winner LeAnn Rimes.

NaTalia is the only African-American female ballerina invited to perform in the Gala of International Ballet Stars.  Her classical training, grace and natural ability has led to appearances on all the major television networks, to
include Fox and CNN.

Through sure determination, faith and will, the African-American ballerina is changing the dance world one performance at a time.

“When I tell people I’m a professional ballet dancer sometimes they’re shocked, or in disbelief.  It doesn't phase me one bit,  I just keep on dancing.  I think  about the first time I met a Dance Theatre of Harlem ballerina.  I was 8-years-old, and not that interested in ballet.  I identified with that dancer up on the stage, she was a woman and she looked like me.  It was right then that I realized what I would be.  A professional ballet dancer."
When she’s not dancing or starring as Sugar Plum Fairy in ballets from New York to Texas, NaTalia mentors young girls and teens, teaching them dance, poise, grace and promotes her Girls Self Esteem Programs in California, Texas, and New York.

The Fathers Resource Center and Little Miss Capital City Pageant is proud and honored to have a world renowned ballerina NaTalia Johnson, travel across country to inspire and work with the girls in this years’ Youth Self Esteem Program.

“The audience is coming to support the next generation of woman in July, the least I can do is say thank you, by personally delivering the gift of dance to each member of the audience.”
Miss NaTalia began the program in New York by teaching dance to community children.  The program evolved into a mentoring program and is now in three states and growing.

Both professional dancers Sadiki Rouse and Anna Courter wowed the crowd.  Mr. Sadiki played our handsome prince and Ms. Anna performed a jaw dropping dance and helped during the crowning ceremony.

A geat lesson was learned when Mr. Sadiki, Ms. Anna and Mr. Andres, who had spent a great deal of time working with the contestants and coaching them, walked out and were introduced as our preliminary judges.  As Ms. Kandice always says, "You should always treat everyone with kindness and respect because you never know when you may interact with them again."
World famous ballerina, NaTalia Johnson of New York City will delight Sacramento with a rare performance July 10, 2010 at the Little Miss Capital City Pageant.

Below Girls Self Esteem Spokeswoman NaTalia Johnson and Andres Gonzalez performed an emotional piece for our 09' pageant.

NaTalia is featured in Feb. 09' edition of Dance Magazine pg. 44 and 45
